Ohio Overview

Ohio registers watercraft through ODNR Watercraft Division but runs title transfers through County BMV offices. Ohio's 3-year registration term means you pay once every three years — among the most cost-effective structures in the country.

  2. Buyer completes Form BMV 4010 (Application for Watercraft Certificate of Title) — available at any County BMV or ODNR office.
  3. Submit to County BMV: signed title, BMV 4010, bill of sale, photo ID, payment ($15 title + sales tax + 3-year registration fee).
  4. Temporary operating permit issued same-day. New title arrives by mail in 3–5 weeks.
